Diagnosis and treatment of Neuromuscular Disorders

Chiropractic an Alternative Treatment

Chiropractic is an alternative medicine or complementary medicine where the focus is on the intimate relationship between your nervous system and spine as bio-mechanical and structural derangement of the spine can affect the nervous system

For many conditions, chiropractic treatment can restore the structural integrity of the spine, reduce pressure on the sensitive neurological tissue, and consequently improve your health and pain

Our chiropractor is a health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation to reduce pain and improve your functionality

At an initial 60 minute consultation our Chiropractor will go through a health questionnaire with you about your health history, where the discomfort is and mark the areas on a drawing of the human body, you will then be given a routine physical exam that includes a range of assessments like range of motion, palpation, reflex, muscle strength and neurological orthopaedic tests on the area of pain, additionally an exam that focuses on the spine will be done with particular attention to your areas of pain, from these initial assessments our chiropractor will tell you the status of your condition and recommend an approach to care

Most often, our chiropractor will also order X-rays of your spine prior to any treatment to study the condition of the bony anatomy and soft tissues surrounding your pain, this also helps to understand the extent of wear, any anomalies in your spine, and other factors that will guide the development of the treatment plan

Following the initial assessments and review of your x-rays if appropriate, our chiropractor will develop a treatment plan that takes into account the extent of your injury or irritation, your general health, the condition of your spine as affected by age and previous injury and what your goals are

Treatment plans can include “Adjustments” which are usually the central part of chiropractic treatment and is a therapeutic manipulation that uses controlled force, leverage, direction, amplitude, and velocity directed at specific joints

When being treated for a complaint such as back or neck pain, you will most likely receive a series of adjustments, separated by either a day or a few days, to incrementally reduce the irritation and improve normal function, this treatment plan might continue for several weeks, usually diminishing in frequency as the pain decreases

Adjustments are often accompanied by non-manual therapies such as application of heat or ice, electrical stimulation, Orthotic supports for your shoes, rehabilitative exercise, Councelling about diet, weight loss, and other lifestyle factors, and nutritional supplements
